Connection through homologated IP

Is it possible to connect to a progress database 9.d or 10 from an external client using homologated IP address?

We are getting the following error:

[DataDirect.Technologies][ODBC PROGRESS driver][PROGRESS]Error in Network Daemon

can you provide more particulars about what you are doing?

and what do you mean by homologated IP? I am unfamuliar with that term.
