I have a calendar on portal page. Can the links on the calendar be changed to send the visitor to a portal page not the back end?

are you referring to event links that are shown on the "Calendar Component"? Since the data is dynamically created and doesn't contain any Property options, I don't believe there is a possibility to modify the destination of an event link. While utilizing a custom View or Template may be able to achieve this, I'm not aware of any specific workarounds.
