Page editor not showing the last "use record in scope&q

In the page editor, when I click to select a lookup field, one of the properties doesn't seem to display its value. The property is "Use Record in Scope for New Objects". If I select that property, save the page, then reopen the page and select that lookup field again - the property displays as unselected. After selecting the property and saving once, the lookup field does seem to automatically select records when I open the page. But it's kind of confusing me; when I look at the page editor, I'm not sure whether it's on or off.
