Adding a birthday to unique fields validation destroys it

I am trying to create a unique fields validation trigger that includes first name, last name, middle name and birthday. Without the birthday, my validation works fine but when I add the birthday to my validation (birthday is a date field) the validation trigger does allow me to add a record even though it should not allow me to do so. Is this already a known bug?
