SCOPE OF THE POSITION
Looking for a Progress database administrator with strong Linux skills.
Tasks include, but are not limited to, database maintenance, systems optimization, security
management and systems upgrades.
Research, troubleshooting and resolution of hardware and software issues are an integral part of this position.
Candidate should have experience supporting mission critical Linux database environments.
Candidate will be required to learn other evolving database technologies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Demonstrated ability to manage at least one major database platform: Progress OpenEdge, Oracle, Informix
• Knowledge of database operations, including installation, backup and recovery, security and storage management
• Strong database/systems performance monitoring and tuning skills
• Support installation and maintenance of database systems on a Linux environment, including software releases, patches and systems upgrades
• OS level knowledge of Suse or Redhat Linux
• Ability to automate recurring processes using shell scripting
• Interact with peers and end-users to troubleshoot and resolve Systems issues
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Strong experienced with SQL-based database technologies running on the Linux platform: Progress (OpenEdge), Oracle, Informix
• Strong shell scripting experience.
• Working knowledge of Suse or Redhat Linux. Familiarity with HP-UX a plus.
• Knowledge of Database and Systems performance tools
• Good problem-solving ability and interested in learning
• Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to clearly and accurately document procedures.
