This service type allows ESB engineers to publish simple metrics from their ESB processes. Currently this is limited to simple message counters but can be extended with "Per Second", "Per Minute" and "Per Hour" counters. If you have any other ideas, don't hesitate to contact me about them. This service was actually meant to illustrate the publishing of metrics to ESB Service authors but has proven to be useful by itself as well.
It can be used to count the number of messages that pass through a certain process or a branch in a CBR service for example. This can then be published to a monitoring tool, such as Zabbix, graphed and analyzed. It can provide a better insight into your messaging environment.
