For educational reasons I am trying to "get to know Sonic". I have little development skills and no experience with Sonic whatsoever. I do have knowledge about SOA and ESB.
In the attached file you'll find an error I got while installing Sonic Workbench on my workstation. Have any of you had this error also? And if so, can you please explain to me what it means and what the impact on my installation is.
This is my second installation of the workbench. In the first installation I encountered an error called "Problems occurred when invoking code from plug-in: "org.eclipse.jface"".
I am afraid that this error is a critical error. Critical as in, it results in the failure of some functions in Sonic which I will need to use in the future. I am afraid that this error will show up when I am deploying my processes in an production envirement.
I would really appreciate your assistence on this matter. Thanks very much in advance.

I have personally not come across this error myself. Did the install finish? Can you remember if the Domain Manager was started prior to getting this message? I would check a couple of things:
Remove any installed java version from the system's PATH
Remove JAVA_HOME from the system's environment
Check provided configuration information (port, security etc.)
Do you have a Domain Manager logfile? The default name is Domain1.DomainManager.log. If so, does it contain any information relevant to this problem? Also check for a createds.log file (some others are stored in ESB7.5/logs directory that deal with installation logging) and check its contents...

Many thanks for your fast and clear response. Let me explain the steps I took to install and configure Sonic Workbench 7.5 correctly.
At first I installed Progress Open Edge 10.1B.
After that install I installed the workbench. During the install the domain manager was not running when getting the error.
During that install I selected my own java envirement (1.6.0_05) and I selected the option of installing a clean Eclipse envirement.
When the installation was finished (and I "ignored" the previously attached error) I started the domain manager and the workbench seperately. When I looked at my containers I noticed that none of them (the default containers) where there. (In my first install of the workbench they were available.)
And when i looked at the logfile as you suggested I saw the same error as the one in the attached .jpg file. So I think there is a link.
Do you have any suggestions on how to install and configure a default Sonic envirement without encountering any errors? I have, as you suggested, removed the java version from the system path. I think it will be best for a clean install that the wizard installs the default objects. That is, in my opinion the easiest way to get a proper install, don't you agree?

Hi Frank,
I agree that in this case you make the default choices (which includes using the preferred Java version that comes with the install) to install the Sonic Integration Workbench product.
Java version 1.6 is not supported I believe so this may cause issues. Better be safe.
About the Domain Manager. The Domain Manager is started as part of the installation. One of the installation wizard screens will show you the log lines as the Domain Manager starts. So look out for that one to see whether the DM starts or not.

I haven't been at it for a few days. But I re-installed both OpenEdge studio 10.1B and Progress Sonic Workbench. Both using the default setup. Hopefully I won't encounter the same errors again.
The domain manager is running and the default containers are launched.
I am starting today with the Sonic tutorials again. I will keep you informed about my progress ;-)..

Seems to be working correctly now.
Can you elaborate as to possible problem solutions you have implemented? Or did you just try again and now it worked?
Well yeah. That's basicly it. Although I now seem to have a problem (or better yet, I am probably doing something wrong) with adding new containers to my domain. Creating the container in the SMC is no problem, but they do not show up in my Sonic Workbench container view. A bit awkward.

You are talking about ESB Containers yes? Did you add the ESB Container(s) to an MF Container (Sonic MQ Container)? Also, check the 'Container Management' dialog from the Container View to see if it is under 'management' of the Workbench (you can also set the autostart there).
You're a genius! I totally forgot to add it to/make it visible in the container view. Pretty noobish if I may be so bold. Thanks a million!
