Is there any way to add routing information to an esb message itinerary by means of java procedures. What I want to achieve is custom java service behavior similar to invoking subprocess step within an esb process.

This is not something directly supported in the product. However, I know professional services (at Progress) has done something similar and you may want to talk to your salesrep.
