Can 11.6 Pacific AppServer connect to OpenEdge 10 database?

Posted by cammyc on 26-Jan-2016 23:20

Hi All,

May I know if Pacific AppServer (PASOE) follows the same OpenEdge database and client compatibility rule (i.e. 1 major release difference)?

That means, PASOE 11.6 can connect to OpenEdge 10.0, 10.1 and 10.2 databases (both 32-bit and 64-bit). And OpenEdge client 10 (10.2A03+ / 10.1B01+ / 10.2+) can connect to PASOE 11.6.

Please help.

Thanks,

Cammy

Hi,

Yes. OpenEdge follows follows the same OpenEdge database and client compatibility rule. You can connect to the older verson data base (for eg. 102B08) from 11.6 PASOE and can work with it.

For the second question, are you trying to connect to the 11.6 PASOE server from  OpenEdge 10.x client?

As of my knowledge from PDSOE (progress developer studio for openedge), we don't give that compatibility support for servers.

Thanks & Regards,

Rama

Hi Rama,

Thanks for your immediate response.
From the following Knowledge Base, Client products to Application Server products with one Major version back and one version forward are supported. Hence, I would like to see if OE10.x client can connect to OE11.6 Pacific AppServer.

Thanks & Regards,
Cammy

A OE10 client cannot connect to a PASOE AppServer due to differences in communication protocol. PASOE uses HTTP based communication between client and server. Even an 11.4 client would not be able to connect to a PASOE AppServer for this reason.

Older clients can connect to PASOE over HTTP. You use the –URL parameter in you connection statement specifying the HTTP address of the  AppServer. There is no difference in the plumbing on a Classic AppServer and PASOE. PASOE just doesn’t support native connections.
