Database redundancy

I am implementing a system and we need fail-over mechanisms in place. How can I start my application (written in Progress) to automatically switch over to a backup database in the event of a production database failure? This is for Progress Version 8.3B. Please help.

Jim;

I would look at hardware redundancy before I tried database redundancy. Either via mirroring drives or mirroring servers. We have run on an NT server with mirrored drives for about two years now with excellant uptime.

There was a product called Vinca Co-Server that we gave serious consideration too also. It allowed you to mirror drives and IP addresses/services both.

The hassles of keeping redundant databases in sync far outwayed the cost of extra hardware as far as I was concerned.
