We are currently at V7.3E, I am wondering if we should upgrade to 8 or jump
ahead to v9. What are the benefits either way?

The benefits of V9 are enourmous - many new 4GL enhancements
as well as many database improvements. V9 all the way, V8 won't
be supported much longer. (it's very old at this point)
