Hi,
our company is planning to migrate Progress v7.3E to v9.1B.
I understand that we have two paths to upgrade database to v9.1B.
- Dump & Load OR
- Conversion Utilities
Herewith, I have some question.
(1) If we use dump & load, can we straight migrate database from v7 to v9 ?
(2) Currently our database in v7 is single volume. If there any problems directly migrate to v9 multi-volume ?
Thanks !

Yes.

No.
If you have not done yet, you might be interested to checkout the migration white paper:

Hello,
We are migrating from V7.3E to V9.1D.But it is not happening in same server, we are migrating from one server ( with V7.3E) to another server ( with V9.1D)
As mentioned , there are two paths,
1) Dump and load
2) Conversion utilitiy ( v7 to v8 and then v9)..
Is there any recommended path ? From the white paper for database migration, I guess dump and load seems to be straight forward.
I'm kind of stuck in these two steps,
1) creating V9 void database
2) configuring V9 database..
I tried to create V9 void database but while trying to get connected it is throwing error message 1423 ( server not available) - how to resolve this ?
How difficult is configuring V9 database ?
Regarding application migration, will the re-compilation solve the problem or do we need to take any special care about this ?
V7.3E is on Sun sparc 5.4 server and V9.1D is on Sun sparc 5.8
Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance...
