TRADACOMS EDI File Format

Posted by James Palmer on 09-Feb-2016 11:54

Just wondering if anyone has some Progress code that will interpret a TRADACOMS EDI file to save me reinventing the wheel? Or even just some pointers in the right direction?

Thanks

Needs to be compatible with Progress 10.2B08 due to our version restraints.

I have a bunch of X12 EDI code, but I guess that doesn't help.  EDI in my experience is an incredible PITA because everyone interprets it differently.

Yep exactly this. It shouldn't be too difficult to parse this stuff, it's just not ideal to have to do so! We've got a number of clients using the EDIFACT standard which is similar but not similar enough to reuse.

My experience with X12 was needing pretty much custom code for each trading partner.  Very frustrating. especially with partners like Amazon which mixed two different standards and expected the "little guy" to figure it out.

Hmm I fear as much.

I've found EDI Notepad which parses the files I've received perfectly, but the license to install it at client sites is prohibitive. It will at least provide some feedback on my attempts!

www.nsoftware.com/.../

runtime free ... the other stuff I've used from them has been rock solid
