I noticed yesterday that in OEPDS there is the option (under help) to "Check for Updates". I am guessing this will go off and update Eclipse. Are there any issues with doing this? Or is it something I should be doing from time to time?
Not sure about current versions. But in past versions (OpenEdge 10.2x) it was guaranteed to break the Visual Designer when using the Eclipse updates.
So I generally tend NOT to use that. But I may just be a sizzy here based on past experience.
Thanks Mike. As it is evidently pertinent to the question, I'm on 11.2. Hopefully someone has tried it! :D
I recently broke $DLC/bin/restgen.bat when updating Eclipse. Restgen.bat is full of hard-coded paths to Eclipse JAR files, which won't be valid anymore after the upgrade.
That was on 11.3.
Thanks for that. Maybe I'll leave it for now! :D
Hi,
PDS OE (Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge) 11.2 is shipped with Eclipse 3.7.1 and has officially support for Eclipse 3.8. So it should not cause any problems for PDS OE eclipse updating to 3.8 version.
Hope this helps.
Thanks and Regards,
Anil Kumar.
Thanks Anil. The update is looking to install 3.7.2, so only a minor upgrade.
Well I decided to go for it and it seems to be fine so far. Famous last words? :)
