New prowin32 icon ???

Posted by Mike Fechner on 07-Feb-2014 05:02

Hi all, I kind of like the “spark” as the icon for the Progress Developer Studio.

But has anybody got an idea what the new prowin32.exe is supposed to tell me???? A puzzle?

It told me we may be planning a port to Atari 64 system with "retro" 8-bit graphics. ;-) =

To me the new icon looks like letter "P" fallen over and broken into two pieces :-)

First look for me it looked like a stormtroppers helmut.

It looks like a building block being inserted into a base for me. A bit like Lego or something like that.

Space invaders , with 3 lasers instead of one.

Guys, I like your ideas. All better than the "flying sperms" of V6.

It looks like a submarine that is mostly under water :-) Especially at small size (16x16).

What I find a bit confusing is that PDSOE and Proenv share the building block icon on the desktop, but on the task bar they are spark and building block.

This difference is there in 11.3.2. 11.4 it will be building block for OpenEdge everywhere.

I must say, I prefer the “Spark”.

"Everywhere" as in the same icon for everything?  That seems user-unfriendly!  Icons are supposed to provide quick, intuitive identification of the meaning of what they stand for.

So, what does the space invaders icon stand for?

To me, it looks like a building metaphor, i.e., fitting the top piece into the bottom piece.  Not the worlds best icon, but I suppose that could apply to PDSOE.  I like the metaphor of the spark better, even though it isn't very noticeable on the task bar, at least on my screen.

I think it means that Progress is considering adding 8-bit Atari computers to the supported platform list.

Only if they port Windows to the Atari ...
