[icf-dev] Repository conversion problem Dyn1 - Dyn2

Posted by LegacyUser on 15-Nov-2002 06:21

Hi,

I have a problem to convert Dynamics 1 repository to Dynamics 2.

Here are the steps I took to upgrade to version 2.

1. Installed Dynamics 2 from Progress CD to different directory as Dynamics 1

- we had already Progress 9.1D and SP1

- the Dynamics patch level in Dynamics 1 was SP3

2. Copied Dynamics 1 repository with procopy to another directory

d:\dynamicsdb2\icfdb\

3. Started DCU utility.

- dynamics paths were correct pointing to Dynamics 2

- connected to copied icfdb in a single user mode

4. Utility did update to icfdb

5. Started session to Dynamics 2 repository

- db connect was single user

- there is no RVDB connection

- icf started running "pathces"

2 of 2636: Running db/icf/dfd/rvdbRemoveData.p

--> stoped with patch 2

Error message

Unable to start Progress Dynamics environment.

The configuration utility file manager returned following errors:

AF101error-message-icf/trg/gsmmitrigd.

p^gsm_menu_item|gsm_menu_structure_item

Always stops at the same place when I start ...

Anybody can help me how to continue ?

Best regards,

-Veli-Matti Korhonen

Hi Veli-Matti,

I experienced exactly the same some time ago. The problem was probably

caused by a wrong version of the icfconfig.xml file (V1.1?). I did not

have toime to investigate the details, but most likely the old

configuration was found earlier on the PROPATH.

I resolved the problem by copying the icfconfig.xml to the working

directory and pointing explicitly to it on the command line (shorcut ...

icfparam ...,ICFCONFIG=...).

If you use the "default" (ei. run-time) session to run this part, you

will get some errors at the end; these are resolved by restarting the

session.

I was able to convert the repository from Dynamics 1 to Dynamics2!

I copied the icfdb to default directory where the installation creates icfdb and started the database from there.

The problem had something to do with the startup-xml file even I edited propath in xml-file and icf.ini to point to Dynamics 2.

Thanks to Vladimir!
