Thanks to all for the help in setting up ICF.
Now I have a new problem. When Generating Objects in the sports2000
database (using Getting Started With Progress Dynamics by John Sadd) I get
the following error
'The Object Type Specified is Invalid (AF:5)'
This happens when Generating Logic Procedure in Repository. Could some
give me a clue as to what I did wrong? The error message sure does not.

Mel,
Please provide some details about your environment, and the steps you have
followed to get where you are. Since I helped you get set up, I am pretty
sure you have the following:
- Progress ProVision 9.1D01
- Posse Dynamics 2.0 (cvs checkout -r posse_30 posseall)
One issue is that the Getting Started document you are referring to was
written with Dynamics 1.1 in mind, and there have been some significant
changes since then.
Have you:
- Obtained a Posse Dynamics site id from possenet.org and entered it into your
repository?
- Created a new Product Module?
- Run and Entity Import on the sports2000 database?
Please provide more information on what you have done so far leading up to the
error. It seems like you are missing some data in your icfdb database
(a.k.a., Dynamics Repository).
Regards,
Tom

I had already down loaded the possenet V2 baseline 4 zip file (without
CVS). Following the instructions with that I compiled it with out
problems.
I then used your instructions along with the Getting Started With Progress
Dynamics by John Sadd white paper to install Dynamics. Everything was fine
until I Generated the Objects against the sports2000 database That is when
I received the error?
Do I really need to use the CVS system and keep my code up to date? I
thought that the baseline was a stable release and would be better to Start
learning the product.
My current software is Progress 9.1d (no patch) ProVision Plus.

Tai,
Shouldn't a fix in SP3 automatically become part of
the standard ADO's or .d's being loaded in V2? Not a
perpetual fix, hopefully?

Hi Mark,
We have a naming confusion here,
"V2.0 Baseline 4" that Mel is using is (Progress)Dynamics 1.1A
-- The "V2.0" is POSSE source code version 2, tagged posse_20 on Possenet
The (Progress)Dynamics 2.0A is actually POSSE source code version 3,
tagged posse_30
If the "V2" you refer to is Dynamics 2.0A, then certainly issue 4192 has
been resolved
and you will not get the "Invalid Object Type" warning.
Hope this clears up the confusion.

Tai

Is there a baseline ZIP file for Dynamics 2.0A or must I use CVS to get
this?

I think that this naming of tags for dynamics versions
(tag posse_30 = dynamics V2)
needs to be changed.
It is now very confusing for everybody.

Please provide more information on what you have

If the "V2" you refer to is Dynamics 2.0A, then certainly issue 4192 has
been resolved
and you will not get the "Invalid Object Type" warning.

I agree it is confusing, but at least it is documented in the NEWS
section of the ICF project page.
Also note that there is not an exact match between POSSE Dynamics and
Progress Dynamics. Progress Dynamics is simply pulled down and
commercialized from a snapshot of the code on POSSE, but may and does
include various modifications as part of the commercialization process -
especially in the areas of installation and upgrade.
The principal is really that the commercialized code is independent of
the POSSE code, and the decisions over version numbers for POSSE
branches and commercial releases are made based on different criteria
and by different people.
Having said all that - it would still be nice if the branch names at
least matched up. Maybe we can get there in the future. In the meanwhile
I suggest you read this document.

I think that this naming of tags for dynamics versions
(tag posse_30 = dynamics V2)
needs to be changed.
It is now very confusing for everybody.

Hi Mark,
We have a naming confusion here,
"V2.0 Baseline 4" that Mel is using is (Progress)Dynamics 1.1A
-- The "V2.0" is POSSE source code version 2, tagged posse_20 on
Possenet
The (Progress)Dynamics 2.0A is actually POSSE source code version 3,
tagged posse_30
If the "V2" you refer to is Dynamics 2.0A, then certainly issue 4192 has
been resolved and you will not get the "Invalid Object Type" warning.
Hope this clears up the confusion.

Tai
