[icf-dev] Roundtable/Dynamics hooks documentation

Posted by LegacyUser on 25-Jul-2002 21:28

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if there is any documentation that describes the utilities that appear under the

"Tools > Dynamics" area of Roundtable?

I have seen a few snippets from previous e-mails on this forum but was looking for a more detailed

explanation (what do they do and when should you use them ...).

Regards

Cheryl,

The Dynamic tools only appear once you have opened up the appBuilder - if

they are not there - make sure that you have an appbuilder session running

and that you have copied the rtb customisation files to your Roundtable

installation directory.

The first three tools are simply links into the standard Dynamics programs -

Dynamics Administration menu, Dynamics Development menu and the Repository

Object Maintenance tool.

There is a document on posse which explains the xml tools:

http://docs.possenet.org/project_documents/icf/icf_rtb_integration.doc.

Although this document is a ltiile out of date now (it still talks about the

rvdb and hooks into Astra's help-desk system) there is a section relating to

the xml dump and load utilities. These utilities work in a similar way to

the dataset export utilities except that a .ado file can be produce for

individual objects - these can automatically be registered with Roundtable

if you so desire (choose Create/Check out objects in SCM Tools).

For an explanation of the dataset export and import tools, take a look at

the data versioning specification:

http://docs/possenet.org/project_documents/icf/data_versioning.doc.

It should be noted that if you use the dataset tools to dump .ado files,

these will not be automatically registered with Roundtable. You should be

able to use the Group check-out facility in Roundtable to examine the

contents of the .ado files against what is already registered and load them

into the Roundtable repository.

The compile Roundtable import tool can be run, once you have imported new

object into your workspace but before you have deleted the import table, to

compile all of the new objects that have just been imported. This is really

just a handy extension to Roundtable - not really Dynamics specific.

Likewise, the compile task directory is again a useful extension to

Roundtable. It will compile all objects under a task directory.

The clear "actionUnderway" records... tools is used to clear the

ttActionUnderway temp-table within the session manager. For an explaniation

of the use of this temp-table refer to the comments in the definition

section of the session manager; but basically it is used to allow child

records to access the key data within a parent record during deletion.

Hope this helps.

Gary.
