Associating custom file extensions with the PDS Editor

Posted by Peter van Dam on 28-Feb-2013 03:08

I have a customer that uses the extension ".pi" for include files and I cannot seem to get the PDS edtitor to recognize this as OpenEdge syntax.

I have tried to set the extension in the following places:

- Windows -> Preferences -> General -> File Associations

- Windows -> Prefrences -> Progress OpenEdge -> Build -> Include file extensions

What am I missing?

Hi Peter,

Following is procedure for setting up custom extensions to be recognized by PDSOE (Editor).

1) Add appropriate file extension in the 'File Associations' section in Preferences page.

Window -> Preferences -> General -> Editors -> File Associations

2) Add appropriate extension in the 'content types' page

Window -> Preferences -> General -> Content Types -> Text -> OpenEdge ABL Source Files

Thanks and Regards,

Anil Kumar.

It is not compilable - it is an include file.

Works for .i but not for .pi.

This does not work either.

Once a specific text-file was opened using the b/w text editor, Eclipse remembers that choice.

Try right-clicking the .pi files in the Project Explorer and choose Open With -> OpenEdge ABL Editor.

Of course that's it!

Nice for new installations, but not for my current one but at least I can fix it now.

Thanks,
