Timers

Could we please retire PSTimer and replace it with a native timer that is implemented in the 4GL on all platforms?

Timers would be very, very useful (much better than PAUSE) in a whole lot of code that presently cannot use them.

(Although it may seem similar this is not quite the same as "pause"...)

That would require a multi-threaded client, no?

What a good idea!

No.

PSTimer has been working, and useful, on Windows since v8. A built-in timer need not require a multi-threaded client.

Some interesting use-cases for MT could be resolved, albeit somewhat less elegantly, if timers are supported directly in the language so it might be possible to view it as a bridge to the future.
