Advanced GUI

Is there any idea on the cost of the advance GUI yet ? Or will it be bundled into the OEA ?

My understanding/expectation ... entirely unofficial, of course ... is that the Advanced GUI is simply a part of the basic product. The only piece which is separate is the set of Infragystics controls and that is not bundled, although we are supposed to have them in the beta.

That's what Jim said here: http://www.psdn.com/library/entry.jspa?externalID=5393

Infragistics Controls will branded by PSC as OpenEdge Ultra Controls (or a name like that).

100% correct. It will be part of the Product with the option to get the Infragistics controls from progress as a separate product. If you have other controls that you prefer for what ever reason, these should work fine.

And would there be a special reason to buy the controls from PSC instead of going direct to infragistics ?

The big advantage for most developers (at least to start with) is that they will receive support, samples and probably also special documentation for those Ultra Controls from PSC.

Even though Controls can be mixed and matches as you wish, but the skin framework from Infragistics makes is senseful to stick with them for most visual components.

See my previous post: Support at a single vendor. PSC support won't send you to Infragistics with issues and back.

A matter that counts for many people that are used to get rich functionality out of a single box.

Have you found an explorer bar that allows for items and groups to be dragged and dropped into another explorer bar ? I haven't (yet) found out how to do it in the infragistics control

Posted by Admin on 23-Jul-2008 01:49

I don't believe I ever tried that.

And the PSC tech support stuff does really a great job with the Advanced GUI so far! Right, Philip and Vladimir and others

Thanks for the nice comments Mike. I personally am coming up to speed, but we do our best.

I notice that the infragistics code base is quite old (2006 or thereabouts). Is the plan to use this version for the AdvancedUI, or will a later version (2008) be used ?

Posted by Admin on 25-Jul-2008 03:35

Are you sure? 2006 was the version of Infragistics used during the TP releases.

Beta ships with a 2008 version. My assemblies (%DLC%\bin\infragistics\winforms) date from 14/04/2008.

now I'm not sure

It seems to be 8.1.20081

I got my assumptions from the readme file, I'm sure. I'll double-check.

thanks.

A readme-bug?

Posted by jmls on 25-Jul-2008 04:01

dammit. Now I can't find it

Julian, the Infragistics controls in the Advanced UI Controls product should be 8.1 and the README should be updated with that information. Please let us know if that is not the case.
