Hi
We've been looking at integrating a reporting component into our application, and decided to have a look at XtraReports from DevXpress (http://www.devexpress.com/Products/NET/Reporting/index.xml)
After our initial attempts resulted in failure, a quick search indicated that is appears this component will not work OE, as detailed here: http://www.devexpress.com/Support/Center/p/Q252949.aspx
Is this a restriction that will be lifted at some point, or is there a workaround ?
Finally, has anyone had any good experiences with other reporting controls ?
Regards,
Saquib

The version of OpenEdge you're using is important; there were some issues with using DevXpress controls due to their use of generics in 10.2A (the restriction was lifted in one of the service packs. SP2 I think). There are some reports of success with using DevXpress at http://communities.progress.com/pcom/thread/24646.
Also, take a look at http://communities.progress.com/pcom/thread/26904 and http://communities.progress.com/pcom/thread/27871 for some information about non-UI controls.

We are on 10.2A02. I do believe other DevExpress controls work, but this particular one has issues, due the reason outlined in the posting from DevExpress.

They do not mention for which base class/inheritance they need support.
All they say is that the Visual Designer does only have support for System.Windows.Forms.Control derived types. That is not 100% true, System.ComponentModel.Component derived types (such as the UltraToolbarsManager) do work well in the Visual Designer and offer great design time functionality.
Thanks Mike.
I've created a new issue with DevExpress, lets see what they come back with.

Hi Saquib,
I am very interested in getting your use case and having us look at it in OpenEdge. I am not sure we can fix it but I would like to take a look. Can you please open a work request with Progress tech support with a small sample so we can investigate from our side.

Shelley, thanks for your input.
Created a case with TS: W007080079
DevExpress have indicated that the base class is System.ComponentModel.Component (http://www.devexpress.com/Support/Center/p/Q266000.aspx).
BUT, actually seem to be having a bit more sucess (I may have been selecting the wrong controls to add to my test form). Will keep you updated (or be back to ask more questions!).
Thanks.
Hello,
We have a reporting application that uses some DevXpress plugins. We have
connected to version 8 all the way to the latest and greatest.
If you would like to learn more about how put it all together so you do not
have to reinvent the wheel please feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
Bryn

Thanks Bryn. Will drop you an email. Interestingly, Progress support have escalated this issue to the development team, as they also cannot get the reports plug in to appear (other devexpress plug-ins do work fine).
Hi Saquib,
Wondering if you or PSC have made any more progress with the XtraReports and the OEA Visual Designer?
I haven't downloaded or tried the controls yet, and am in a very early stage of looking for possible reporting tools that work with OpenEdge Architect.
Thanks!
Hi Shelly, I have opened a case (W011050099) with some questions about the XtraReports control. Would you mind taking a quick to see if my issue is a technical limitation with GUI for .NET?
