Where's the code?

Can someone at PSC tell me where all the code that used to be in this area went so I can point folks to the right location?

You can either go to the 'code share' community, which is linked off the PSDN/OpenEdge page (http://communities.progress.com/pcom/community/psdn/openedge/codeshare)

or you can simple select one of the code share tags. (associated tags can be found at the bottom of the documents) (ie code_share or openedge_codeshare)

Here is the link to the code_share tag community: http://communities.progress.com/pcom/community/psdn/openedge?view=tags&tags=code_share

Hope this helps.

Why is the code share content not on the documents tab of the Code Share section?

Or, how is someone supposed to find the content from here without reading this individual post?

Hi Kristen -

The first link you posted only shows discussions in the "Code share" area - I looked there and wasn't able to find any actual code though. (Also, the system included the trailing ")" so the like as it stands doesn't work).

The second link leads to some other documents, but following those links doesn't get me to any actual code, just some forum posts.

Everything I link to is codeshare: http://communities.progress.com/pcom/community/psdn/openedge/codeshare

I'm not sure what you are seeing but that community shows both discussions and documents.  The code is in the documents as an attachment like it was on the old site.

Following the View All Results link on Current Content produces two pages of entries.  Surely there were a lot more than that in the old code share area.

Is there a particular code share doc you are looking for and can't find it?

I can see multiple pages docs in this area - especially if you expand the number of docs you can view per page.

It is possible that some things were archived because of the date it was posted.  The person managing the area of the new site, at that time, may have felt the doc was too old to keep on the site. However, if there is content you can't find, please let me know and I'll be sure to make sure its placed on the site.

Following that link, under the "documents" tab I see one (1) entry:

Object-oriented programming in the Progress 4GL 10.1A Code Samples" and has "samples.zip" attached.

There's nothing else there.

"All Content" has other posts, but nothing that I recognize as coming from the old PSDN.

Simple stay in the 'code-share' area and not go into the DOCs location, which only has one document.  Please keep in mind that this is a new tool and those new to working with it are still trying to understand how to map/catagorize items.  The idea behind this site is to use the 'tagging' feature.

I'm planning on doing some presentations on the open-source code I've got out there, and want to point people to places where they can get it. However, they're gone from all the places where they were hosted, or I can't find it.

In PSDN's case, there was the directory tools, a procedure manager, query manager, and a program to take 4GL log-files and convert them to a temp table with a nice, easily read output.

Granted, some of these are from a while ago, but they're all still useful tools, and I keep finding people who need them, so they shoudn't be "archived off."

Let me clarify......some things MIGHT be archived. I don't know unless you tell me you can't find it. Then I can see where the doc is.  The code_share area I pointed you to should have all the files. However, if you don't want to flip page-by-page, then simply do a search for the document name. Most likely you will find it as I did (see links below).

Step one: go to the code share area and review the docs in the community (either via a tag or under the codeshare community off the oe page)

Step two: do a search

Step three: if doc isn't found, then let me know.

Query manager: http://communities.progress.com/pcom/docs/DOC-16558

Procedure manager: http://communities.progress.com/pcom/docs/DOC-16568

Directory tools: http://communities.progress.com/pcom/docs/DOC-16578

On OE Hive, we had 118 Code Share contributions indexed prior to the move, which, of course, broke all the links.  I get only two pages of maybe 20 now ... so a lot missing.

See list here http://www.oehive.org/taxonomy/term/279

Ok, I got something back from the "code_share" tag link, and found the documents I was looking for. But it's sure hard to find things, even if you know what you're looking for....
