Progress Version: 11.6.3
OS: Linux

promsgs file is present under $DLC location.

I searched on kbase and all other places I could, but I not able to relate anything. Customer says "No update/changes done to system.

What should be the cause of it? Can you please share how to resolve/investigate this issue.

Thanks in advance.
Qasim.

Is it the client's or server's side?

On Linux server 11.6.3 OE is installed. Its on server side.

In your case the errors took place on the client's side. It's where you should check the time of last update of progress.cfg file.

Hi,

THanks for your reply.

I am not sure if I got you. Customers is using QAD NetUI application so I dont think we can check anything on client side as there are many end users with only netUI client installed on their machine.

You can find the host of user 1022 in the message 742:

SRV     2: (742)   Login usernum 1022, userid <name> client type , on <host device> using TCP/IP IPV4 address .

Hi George,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, these are server (SRV) processes. I checked $DLC/progress.cfg and it was last updated on Feb 2017.

Do you have any other suggestions to check further on this.

This is becoming very problematic for the customer, as it filling up all the disk space causing outages due to insufficient disk.

Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

Thanks,

Qasim.

Did you find the "SRV     2: (742)   Login usernum 1022" message(s) in db log?

What the host name is mentioned in this message?

Posted by qasimpatwekar on 14-Dec-2017 06:31

It is the server name where OE/QAD application resides.

Posted by George Potemkin on 14-Dec-2017 07:12

It's the server where the error took place.

Isn't this kind of thing usually caused by a virus scanner running  amok and locking promsgs?

Hi Tom,

Yes, customer have Symantec AV installed on the server and this scans all files. Do you really think this could be the reported issue? if so, I can ask customer to stop/uninstall the AV.

Thanks,

Qasim.

Don't disable it. It may save your bacon one day! BUT, exclude the following from its scan directories:

1) Physical database directories

2) After Image directory

3) AI Archiver target directories

4) BI Directory

5) $DLC

6) Working directory

Anti-virus is worse than the disease that it supposedly treats.

Hi All,

Suddenly error message no more coming in log file since 20 Dec, plz note AV disabled on server on 25 Dec, so its 5 days before no error was written on the log. Interestingly nothing done on 19/20 which canbe held responsible for this. Its really getting confused for us, why it appeared for so many days? and suddenly it disappered from logs..so chances are the error message can return any time in log as we dont know exact cause of it....please here what to check?
