Error is not a Progress backup volume

Hello,

I have backup files Progress 11.3 that are displaying an error message that

is not a Progress Backup volume (1059)

!!! ERROR - Database restore utility FAILED !!! (8564)

Can you correct these backup files?

I've already searched for previous backups, the only one I found valid was August 25, 2016

First 240 bytes of backup header should be a plain text. Can you check it?

od -c backup.file | head

volume 1 of backup taken Thu Aug 25 20:01:43 2016 for OPENEDGE database:      

E:\totvs\datasul\dts-1\bancos\database-8080\mdtfrw.db

All bytes are null?

Were there any recent incidents with your system? What happened with the original database? Why are you looking for backup? Due to the disk failure?

All bytes are null? No. It has other characters and data from the database

Your backup file seems to be a victim of ransomware virus as well.

I think he's opened his backup file using a text editor:

volume 1 of backup taken Wed May  4 09:32:46 2016 for OPENEDGE database:^@^@^@^@^@^@^@
/prostix/prodev/scorpion/live/dbs/stix.db^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@

as opposed to what you'd asked for:

which makes sense - he's on a windows machine, which doesn't have 'od'.
