Memory consumption issues

Hoping someone has come across this one.

Windows Server.

10.2B03 (scheduled for an upgrade to 10.2B08)

This is a client site. They've got all sorts on the server including SQL server. We've told them they need to move things, but they can't do that immediately.

In the meantime they have an issue whereby after some time memory is fully used and performance drops. They've done some analysis and it's the  _mprosrv program that's chewing it up even though it's not showing in Task Manager as doing so.

The environment consists of around 9 databases (legacy reasons). Apparently it's a bit of a lottery which one sorts the issue, but if we start shutting down the databases eventually one of them will suddenly release 10-20GB memory, sometimes even more.

We can't place a finger on what might be causing it and would appreciate any ideas of what to look at.

It's possible upgrading to SP8 might sort it, but just in case not we want to investigate now.

we had an issue on Server 2008R2 where if you were performing an online backup it would eat all the memory. it was resolved in 10.2B08.

Not sure if you are having same issue or not.

I found the online backup one.  Bug PSC00229509, fixed in 10.2B04.  It was a problem in Microsoft windows cache handler introduced in server 2003  and we’d see it with online backup.  Even though we gave it back, the os didn’t let go of it.

That's most likely the candidate. Thanks loads.

The ironic thing is I read about this just the other day and it didn't spring to mind.
