Negative Scatter Factor

Hello

I have negative scatter factor in dbanalys in Storage Area (Type II)

In Area only one table, without indexes

PUB.table 22220521 16.0G 250 5743 774 22515620 1.0 -0.3

I am surprised!

My question - it is bad or it is not necessary to pay attention?

Drop a note to PSC Tech Support, but I expect you ran into an integer overflow situation, which is where the overflow is coming from.

I wouldn't worry about it. For the most part, the scatter factor in a TII area isn't an indication of how scattered your data is anyway since the blocks only contain data for on object and are organized into clusters. It has been changed to indicate when a dump and load might help to consolidate your data. That is if within each cluster of the object there is a lot of free space between blocks with actual data in it then the scatter factor grows. This is very different that how it is calculated for a TI storage area.

There have been several fixes with this calculation over the various OpenEdge releases. I would let Tech Support know regardless as it is a bug but it is not an indication of any other action on your part.
