Commands to start and stop a database

Posted by Admin on 02-Feb-2011 10:52

We have done an upgrade to OE 10.2A and I was wondering how I can stop and start the databases before and after a backup with third party backup software.

To configure the database we used OpenEdge Explorer.

With version Progress 9.1 I did a shutdown of my databases with the commands 'net stop' and 'net start' to stop the services. Simple and easy.

Regards,

BP

I strongly recommend *not* using 3rd party software for the backup.  You are much, much safer using probkup.  Using probkup to disk and then using the third party software to backup the disk image is perfectly fine and safe.

Which said, commands haven't really changed.  They are easy and well documented in the manuals.

As TMH says using 3rd party backup SW isn't a very good idea.

A much better approach is to use probkup.  You can eben get an online backup with probkup.  You could use probkup to disk and have the 3rd party sw backup that.

But, if you insist, if you were using "dbman" with 9.1 the same commands should still work.  If you were using "proshut" and "proserve" then you should look into "dbman".
