Corticon crashes

Posted by nicolav on 16-Jul-2019 11:19

Hi Everyone,

I've been using Corticon for years now, but suddenly it has started crashing on me, in random places. I open corticon, then I go to file and click open - and corticon just closes, gone. If I double click on a corticon rule and open it from the file manager, then it opens. But if I then add a test sheet, and then try and import an xml into the test, corticon dies. Sometimes I can get as far as selecting the file I want to import before it dies, but it still dies. I have tried rebooting my PC, fixing the corticon installation, uninstalling and reinstalling, updating Java - no success. I am at a loss of what to try next.

I tried opening several different rules, tried importing different xml's with the same result. No-one else in my company has problems with their corticon, and they can open the files/xml's that I can't. So it must be an issue local to my pc/installation.

Can anyone help?

There’s not much information here to go on. I suggest opening a support ticker and working with a support engineer to resolve the problem.

Hi James, What other information do you need? I'll have to get someone else in the company to log an actual ticket as I don't have access to the license info etc. But please let me know what other info you would need so I can get it so long

Hello,

What version of Corticon are you using?

Do you receive an error message during the crash?

If so, what is it?

Can you try:

1) Starting Studio with the -clean option as mentioned here:

knowledgebase.progress.com/.../Starting-Corticon-Studio-with-the-clean-option

2) Making sure you have enough memory allocated.

Reference the "Corticon Studio related issues" section of

knowledgebase.progress.com/.../000046561

2) Switching to a new workspace and importing your projects to it one at a time to eliminate a problem project?

Step 1:  Uninstall and Reinstall Corticon Studio

Step 2:  Create a new workspace and use it

Also, you can reference the following to get a support case opened:

Hi Monica,

I'm using version 4.2. No, no error messages whatsoever - it just closes completely.

It is unlikely to be a project. I tried opening various different projects with the same issue, and often corticon crashed before I could even select a project to open. And other corticon users could open my projects on their pc's without any problems.

i'll try the above options, thanks.

Hi Monica,

We struggled to set up clean mode - we think the instructions are for a later version of corticon than what we are using. But while we were trying we did find an error log file (pasted below). This indicated a Java issue so we updated Java, but again no success. Hopefully somebody here can rea something from the error log that we missed?

Hi Everyone,

We seem to have fixed the problem. Somehow my .jar files had been corrupted. Replaced those and now everything seems to be working again. Thanks for the help!

Hello,

Since I didn't know what version of Corticon you were on, I assumed you were on a more recent version.

The information I sent was for a more recent version of Corticon (5.x).

You can try increasing your mem/perm size based on your machine resources to see if that helps by modifying

C:\Program Files (x86)\Corticon4.x\studioLargeMemory.cmd

If you are still having issues, I encourage you to open a support case by calling a number listed here:

We strongly encourage you to upgrade your Corticon version. Version 4.2 is 10 years old and out of support. You're missing out on lots great enhancements made to Corticon.

Hi James, Yes it is in the plans to upgrade.

Unfortunately replacing the .jar files did not work. I got about 2 hours of working in corticon with no problems and then  it started crashing again. If anyone could log at the error file I posted earlier adn let me know if they have a brainwave, I would really appreciate it. We're at the point of wiping my pc and starting over....
