Am I able to change the vocabulary a rule uses?

As one develops the vocabulary changes because the rules being added or altered require changes to the vocabulary.

Hoping to maintain versioning of the vocabulary the name of the vocabulary changes (we are controling the versioning of software manually).

Deleting the old vocabulary from the project and adding the newer version of the vocabulary to the project does not immediately alter the vocabulary the rule is using.

I would now like to manually alter the vocabulary used by the rule without creating a new project or maintaining duplicate vocabularies etc.

Please could someone explain how I may accomplish the above, thanks.
